London 2012 - 2/08/12

Waking up in a great mood, I gathered James and Kate for a meeting on what we hoped to achieve on the day. Kate wanted to focus on local angles and selected some of the Worcestershire athletes she wanted to get stories from. Due to work she left to catch the train back to London in the afternoon.

Me and James went to see Chris Taylor and Alex Kartman where together we decided to go back to the Olympic park to look for more sports stories. We got into Stratford and checked out Westfield Mall which was colossal and had hundreds of athletes and travelling fans wondering round the long shopping aisles. We spoke to fans and journalists outside the BBC and Sky Sports bases in the Park. Also met some of the Mongolian handball team and interviewed some USA fans before deciding to head to Hyde Park to see what was going on.
Arriving at Hyde park in the early evening we found it was free to get in and watch all Olympic events live on massive plasma screens scattered across the park. BT London Live 2012 was hosting the festival like atmosphere at Hyde Park which bought thousands to celebrate the games.

We were lucky enough to watch Chris Hoy receive his first gold for Team GB. The Americans couldn’t believe the passion we were showing for our athletes.

Soon after that the screen went blank on the main stage and a live band began to play! It was Lawson and that's when I discovered live bands and artists were performing everyday up until the games end.

We then bumped into Katelynn Thys who said she had arranged an interview with  former British rowing athlete Sarah Winkness next week and asked if I wanted to come along and get my own angle on the story which is great!

We left Hyde Park and I treated Chris, Alex and Katelynn to a meal at The Sherlock Holmes in Trafalgar Square which they enjoyed. After this we went to see the Olympic clock in Trafalgar Square where we ended up on TSN (The Sports Network) which is Canada's version of ESPN. We stood and sang the Canadian national anthem next to a fountain while the shows host Ken Volden filmed and interviewed us live!

After a long day we went back to the flat and got to know the American team better while trying to buy tickets to an event which is virtually impossible to achieve!
